Barclays Premier League – Free Football Tips Saturday 8th Nov ’08

We have one of the biggest matches in modern-day Barclays Premier League football today as Man Utd take on Arsenal in one of those alleged league deciders (today’s early kick-off at 12:45). We also have the small matter of 5 other Premier League matches taking place today. We’ll provide tips and advice to try to help you come away from most of them with a profit!

Arsenal v Man Utd KO 12:45pm

Arsenal have had a so-so start to their season by their recent high standards and, worryingly for the Gunners, have looked as impotent in front of goal as they have for more than 10 years. Mid-week, Robin van Persie was booed off with his teammates after squandering chance after chance. Man Utd, by contrast, have seen a resurgent Wayne Rooney, a fortunitous Dimitar Berbatov and the excellent Christiano Ronaldo regularly scoring goals.

Arsenal at home isn’t what it once was either – they are getting turned over at home a lot. Unrest is building too – Wenger, believe it or not, is beginning to hear questions about whether he’s done all he can for the club. Amazing, really, considering all he’s done, but confidence does seem to be draining from the Arsenal side.

Expect slick passing from both sides, holding possession well. United will be more productive with the possession that they do have and should score one or two today. The question is whether Arsenal can match them. It really depends on small margins: defensive mistakes, or great finishes from Cesc & friends. This should finish 1-2 or 2-2.

Advised:

Hull v Bolton KO 15:00

Providing Hull can forget about their endeavours against huge teams like Chelsea, they should get back to winning ways today against an underachieving Bolton side at home. Hull have been flying, and form is everything in this game. We’ve seen nothing to suggest Bolton are on the rebound.

Expect Geovanni to score as Hull win this by a margin of 1 or 2.

Advised:

Sunderland v Portsmouth KO 15:00

Both of these sides started well this season until some recent poor perfromances. Portsmouth have had a managerial shake-up whereas Sunderland have just looked shaky recently – they weren’t helped when meeting Chelsea at the wrong time and getting pounded 5-0.

Sunderland are usually solid at home, while Portsmouth play well away. This match could well be decided based on the performances of each goalkeeper – two of the best in the league are on display here – I’d expect David James to win that battle, though, as Gordon has begun to appear unsteady under a fairly regular bombardment. With Defoe and Crouch coming at him, Sunderland’s flappable defence will be tested, and fail.

Expect goals.

Advised:

West Ham v Everton KO 15:00

This is a match we cannot provide tips for as there has been little consistency from either of these sides to date – the match could swing any way.

Advised: NO bet

Wigan v Stoke KO 15:00

Wigan are in a rut right now, and sliding down the table. Stoke, on the other hand, seem to have found themselves an unstoppable weapon in the form of Rory Delap’s rocket launcher throw-ins.

Expect Wigan to squander chances, while Stoke pick them off from set pieces.

Advised:

Liverpool v West Brom KO 17:45

Liverpool might well have got a fair amount of luck in mid-week when awarded an unlikely penalty against Athletico Madrid, but they won’t need that today. West Brom have been poor of late. Liverpool should win this by over 1 goal.
