Cheltenham Festival 2009 – Citroen Leading Jockey and Trainer, Full Results

Ruby Walsh and Paul Nicholls Celebrate winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup
For this year’s Cheltenham Festival, Systemlays ran for the first time a special Festival Competition which hundreds of you entered online for free. Those numbers are currently being crunched, to work out the list of winners and also-rans in that one, but while we do, we thought we’d let you know the complete results of the Cheltenham Festival 2009 leading jockey and trainer competitions (which this year have been kindly sponsored by Citroen cars).
A special mention must go out to Andy Clifton, the Cheltenham racecourse Communications Manager, who very kindly prepared the full and detailed results lists you see below – thus saving us untold amounts of work.

And that’s about it. It would seem as though the bookmakers (and most of you) called this one about right, though Robert Thornton and Paul Carberry might have expected higher finishes, a couple of crashing falls put paid to their chances. Its also nice to see the amateur riders sharing the wins around this year.
Citroen Leading Trainer Cheltenham Festival 2009
Paul Nicholls produced yet another masterful training performance, not least to get Denman right after no end of problems to finish second to his stable champion Kauto Star – saddling the first and second in the Gold Cup two years running is a pretty amazing feat. Nicky Henderson had a tremendous Festival to wrestle the second spot from the more fancied Willie Mullins team, while Alan King might feel a little disappointed that he was unable to round off his phenominal season with a more successful Festival – though he must have been relieved to get that illusive winner at the very last chance saloon!
Keep checking the site for the competition winners announcement (we’ll email you if you won a prize too!).
