Cheltenham Festival Remembered – 1989 Gold Cup Desert Orchid

Who can forget Dessie?

I love watching replays of Desert Orchid’s Gold Cups as they were the first races which really saw me getting bitten hard by the racing bug at the end of the 1980s.

This Cheltenham Festival is one of the first I can remember, and its certainly not lost anything in nearly 20 years – just enjoy this finish as Desert Orchid shows us why he was a national treasure for years to come after this gripping race.

A true people’s champ.
