Football – Premier League Fixtures & Tips Saturday 4 October ’08

Today is Saturday, and, as “When Saturday Comes” taught us, it should be football day, however, this weekend sees more English Premier League fixtures tomorrow than today as only 3 matches play out at 3pm today and a fourth at half past five. Here we let you know how we expect those important Barclays Premier Football League games to go.

Sunderland v Arsenal 3pm KO

Sunderland, who have been struggling to get any sort of consistency this season, entertain Arsenal who will still be reeling from last weeks shock 1-2 defeat to Hull. Arsenal came out midweek and showed the whole of Europe what they can do, and another bout of complaicency would be extremely surprising. Expect a workmanlike performance from the gunners, while Sunderlands pacy new strikeforce will get a shot or two on target.

Almunia in Arsenal’s goal is growing into a fine goalkeeper, though, so we’d expect this game to be won by Arsenals stronger fire-power, 2-1 or 2-0.

Advised:

  • Dutch Arsenal 2-0 and Arsenal 2-1 (6/1 and 13/2 with Paddy Power) for half a point each;
  • Walcott to score – 13/5 with Paddy Power

West Brom v Fulham 3pm KO

West Brom, despite their favouritism, have it all to do against a Fulham side who have begun brightly this season. Expect Fulham to pick this match up by the odd goal.

Advised:

Wigan v Middlesbrough 3pm KO

Here we have two sides who are ludicrously difficult to get right. Both have the players to win this game by more than one goal, and both sides can also put in a shocker quite regularly. Wigan and Middlesbrough have both lost games they should have won this season and neither has shown what can be considered good form to date.

Advised: No Bet

Blackburn v Manchester United 5:30pm KO

A simple equation here: Man United should win this game. While Blackburn have just had their confidence boosting Newcastle United game, and have got some form going into this, Man United have started the season badly with a defeat to their arch rivals Liverpool. Blackburn is another derbyish game for United, and they need points. When United need points, they generally deliver, and they’ve got a substantial amount of class in the squad to call upon.

Expect a couple of goal advantage for United with a potential goal for new-boy Berbatov.
