Grand Nationals Remembered – 1956 E.S.B Beats Devon Loch
Devon Loch, owned by Her Majesty the Queen Mother, is widely regarded as one of the most unlucky horses in the history of the Grand National following this catastphic National in 1956. The horse jumped an imaginary fence in the run-in for some strange reason.
Some say Devon Loch was spooked by the huge noise of the crowd. Some say the horse jumped a shadow or mark on the course. No-one knows anything for certain, except for one thing: E.S.B won the 1956 Grand National, not Devon Loch.
