Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race 2009
While you’re waiting for the Grand National next Saturday, you can amuse yourself with the Oxford v Cambridge Boat Race markets being offered by Paddy Power. The race will be shown on ITV from 2pm on Sunday 28th March 2009. The race takes place between Putney bridge and Chiswick bridge on the Thames – so if you’re in London you can go and back the team you’ve bet on. This is the 155th boat race challenge between the Oxbridge Universities. The race itself commences at 15:40.
Cambridge currently lead the series since 1829 by 79-74. They also hold the course record, which was set in 1998 by the tallest and heaviest team since the race began. Oxford won the 2008 race. This year they are also fielding the heaviest team in the 180-year history of the race as well as an Olympic silver medallist – Colin Smith.
Paddy Power are offering markets on; winners, a dead heat, the distance between the teams at the end, whether a course record will be set and the chance of a boat sinking (which happened a lot in the old days). To get to the market, just go to “rowing” and find the “University Boat Race” bets.
