Premier League Football Tips – Sunday 26 October 2008

Today sees another of those Super Sundays! With more big teams in the Premier League than ever before, almost every weekend, it seems, we are treated to a big game or two. This weekend, its Chelsea v Liverpool. There’s also the small matter of five other Premier League matches, which we’ll preview and provide tips for below.

After yesterday’s 9/1 winner, do you want to miss this?

Chelsea v Liverpool KO 1:30pm Sky Sports 1

Chelsea take on Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this afternoon in a match which will tell Liverpool for sure whether or not they can consider themselves in with a real chance for the title. Both sides are currently unbeaten this season. Chelsea haven’t lost at home since the last ice age, while Liverpool haven’t known when they are beaten this season, coming from behind in the last minutes of more than one game.

Chelsea have looked excellent under Scolari, though, and, without their huge injury list, would be considered huge favourites here. However, players like Kalou are beginning to step up and Chelsea is a side with the right mix of experience, bite and incredible talent. Big Phil has them attacking in wave after wave (refreshing after the defensive mindset of Mourinho and the stocato (lack of) ryhthm of Grant).

Expect Chelsea to retain possession with quick passing and a forwards mentality, which will result in one or two goals. Reina will be busy in Liverpool’s goal and their fortunes could rest on his performance. Liverpool will counter well, and a goal may well fly in for the Reds from the boot of Steven Gerrard.

Advised:

Manchester City v Stoke City KO 3pm

This tale of two cities should end with a Sky Blue victory. Man City look too strong for the manful Stoke side here today and should be able to notch three points by a two goal advantage. Robinho may well get on the score shett for the hosts.

Advised:

Portsmouth v Fulham KO 5pm

Portsmouth lost Harry Redknapp this weekend, so it will be interesting to see whether they can maintain their recent good form without him. Fulham have got a great manager themselves, but Pompey away looks to be beyond them this time.

Expect goals from the Defoe/Crouch combination to prove one or two too many for Fulham.

Advised:

Tottenham v Bolton KO 3pm

Spurs play Bolton at home five points adrift of the rest of the Premier League and looking like a side completely out of sorts. However, new managers bring new fortunes, and Harry Redknapp has been drafted in, while he won’t have much time to instigate any sort of training program, he shall be addressing the players before kick off, and some confidence might just see them return to their better form.

As a result, we are swerving this game as a betting opportunity.

Advised: NO bet

Wigan v Aston Villa KO 3pm

Villa travel to Wigan this afternoon and Martin O’Neill’s men will be looking to return home with all three points to keep their European dreams on track.

While Wigan do have a strong side, they have a lot to do today and a draw may be their best result here. Expect Villa to edge the shot count and possession stats and take this match by the odd goal.

Advised:

West Ham v Arsenal KO 3pm

West Ham and Arsenal are both members of the growing “we’ve been beaten by Hull” club, but that’s about all they share in terms of footballing style. Arsenal should win this relatively comfortably.

Advised:

  • Back Arsenal to win -0.5 & -1 Goal Asian Hadicap @ 1.8 (Betfair)

That’s it for this weekend.
