Royal Ascot 2009 Tips – Day 2 Wednesday 17th June
What a great opening day of Royal Ascot we have enjoyed today. Tomorrow will see more of the same: six more top class races.
As the System Tipster, I’ll get straight on with the important business of finding some winners and selecting a horse to lay in each Royal Ascot race. Below are Systemlays’ tips for the second day of Royal Ascot 2009.
2:30 Jersey Stakes (Group 3) 7f BBC1
Brian Meehan saddles Gallagher, which is expected to go off at around 9-1 third favourite for this 7 furlong 3 year old event – we place Gallagher slightly ahead of the rest of this field (which we rate incredibly closely from second top down). For this reason, we advise a small each way bet on Gallagher as the best betting opportunity in the Jersey Stakes.
Loch Linnhe, at 6-1, looks far too short a price: we don’t think this horse has done enough on course to justify this. A solid laying opportunity, which should find two or three too good in this event.
3:05 Windsor Forest Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies & Mares) 1m BBC1
This mares and fillies race is another close affair. We place Heaven Sent, Chantilly Tiffany and Lush Lashes at the head of this pack based on our ratings. We’d recommend a small forecast on the three and an each way bet on Chantilly Tiffany at around 25/1 – if this horse recaptures last season’s form, it will go extremely close, and at an excellent price.
Proviso may struggle to justify the anticipated price of 7/1 – we’ll be laying this French filly.
3:45 Prince of Wales´s Stakes (Group 1) 1m2f BBC2
This race is difficult for us to get too much of a handle on due to the international entries and our ratings only working on British and Irish racecourses – quite simply, it isn’t possible for us to objectively classify times from race tracks where we don’t know the layout, and who don’t provide accurate and stable data as a matter of course. Of those who have run under rules in the UK and Ireland, we like Tazeez, who has an excellent speed rating based on his win at Newmarket in April. That was a very good performance, which, if repeated, would take some beating.
We cannot lay any of the horses in this race with any confidence.
4:20 Royal Hunt Cup (Heritage Handicap) 1m BBC2
A giant Heritage Handicap with over 30 runners sees us select the top four we feel are the best at these weights based on our unique ratings when compared under this race’s conditions. Those four horses are:
- Lucky Dance
- Bencoolen
- Flawed Genius
- Roaring Forte
A small each-way bet on each of the above may well pay dividends at some good prices.
If you’re looking for one to lay, then Mahadee looks unlikely to trouble the judge, but the price is likely to be pretty uninspiring.
4:55 Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) (Fillies) 5f BBC2
Mark Johnston’s CAPERCAILLIE (NAP) looks, for us, like the likely winner of this race – the price of around 6-1 makes it a worthwhile each-way bet too. Our ratings make this horse quite some way ahead of Rose Blossom, the next best, who is in turn well ahead of the rest of the field. A small forecast on the two would be a sensible bet too.
We’ll be laying Grand Zafeen in this race.
5:30 Sandringham Handicap (Listed Race) (Fillies) 1m
The closing event of the 2nd day of Royal Ascot is another fillies race over a mile. Our ratings place Moonlife and First City at the top of this very closely grouped field. A small each way bet on the two is advised.
Say No Now looks well out of it’s depth. We are laying this one heavily.
